Rajinikanth’s Kabali to release with ‘U’ certificate on July 22

After delays and painful suspense for fans, Rajinikanth’s Kabali is set for a July 22 release with a ‘U’ certificate. Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu informed that Kabali was cleared by the censor board on Monday, and is all set to entertain the fans across the world.

Kabali, based on a life of a don, will be released in three languages, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, in nearly 4,000 theaters. A two hours and 32 minutes long movie will also be dubbed in Malayalam. It will also release in Malaysia on July 29.

The producers were initially targeting a July 15 release, but the film didn’t get the slot immediately, as other Tamil movies, who had applied prior, were waiting in the line. According to reports, Rajinikanth asked the producers to follow the censor board’s schedule, without jumping the queue.

Getting a ‘U’ certificate from the censor board is a major boost for Kabali. Now the Rajinikanth-starrer is eligible for entertainment tax exemption in Tamil Nadu. Because of Rajinikanth’s massive fan base, Tamil Nadu is supposedly the core box office constituency for the movie.

Kabali is likely to do a 200 crore pre-release business from theatrical distribution, digital sales and other rights. The hype around the movie is such that recently Air Asia imprinted a larger-than-life Rajinikanth’s poster on its aircraft.
