India vs New Zealand | Vijay, Pujara give India a steady start

Opener K L Rahul gave India an aggressive start against the Kiwis at Green Park stadium in Kanpur but fell for 32 off 39 balls. Murali Vijay (39) and Cheteshwar Pujara (34) steadied the Indian innings as at the lunch break the hosts had scored 105 for 1.   

Earlier, Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat in the first Test of the three match series against New Zealand .

India in its historic 500th Test is playing with six batsmen, two fast bowlers and two spinners while the visiting New Zealand are playing with three spinners and two fast bowlers.

India has won 10 tests under Kohli’s captaincy.
