Bangladesh record historic Test win over England

A stunning spin bowling performance from teenage sensation Mehedi Hasan Miraz complemented by a talismanic display by Shakib Al Hasan powered Bangladesh to a historic 108-run win over England in the second Test on Sunday.

This is the first ever Test victory over England for Bangladesh. Sunday’s triumph at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium also saw them draw the two-Test series 1-1. England won the first Test in Chittagong by 22 runs, reports bdnews24.com.

England were set a daunting 273-run chase. A century stand between the England openers Alastair Cook and Ben Duckett apparently put England in a comfortable position before tea.

But after the break, 19-year-old Miraz tore through the England top order before Shakib grabbed three in an over to put the hosts on the brink of an epic win.

Miraz then picked out Steven Finn with an lbw to seal the victory in three days to send the hosts and the boisterous home crowd in spasms of delight.

Miraz finished with 6/77 in the second innings to return 12 wickets from the match by virtue of his 6/82 in England’s first innings.

His wicket tally stood at 19 wickets from his first two Tests having grabbed seven on his debut in Chittagong.

The dominating win was only their eighth in 95 Tests.

A total of 17 wickets fell on the third day on Sunday and 10 of them were in the final session.
